Team Survivor Newsletter March 2022

The countdown to Lake Tahoe has begun. As of today, we are less than 100 days from our beautiful ride in Lake Tahoe. Yes, just 96 days! It’s hard to believe since it has been difficult to get out and train but we’ll make the best of it and we will be absolutely ready for the event. The good news is that we can all fundraise regardless of the weather so make sure you start making your fundraising push to the finish line. Thanks for signing up with Team Survivor to Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Delna Weil – Rookie Challenger

Congratulations to Delna Weil who has stepped up to the TNT National Rookie Challenge. This is a national fundraising competition for first-time Team in Training teammates to raise as much money as possible and make an incredible impact for the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Rookie Challengers set their fundraising goal at $25,000 to qualify for this elite competition. When she hits $25,000 she will be given the Circle of Heroes Award, receive a medal during our Lake Tahoe event weekend and have her name listed in Forbes.

As you know, Delna is fundraising and riding in memory of her father, Richard Weil, who passed away in 2021 after being diagnosed with AML. Team Survivor will ride in his memory in 2022 and will fund an AML research portfolio when we reach $100,000.Congratulations Delna! We are so proud of what you are doing and glad we can ride with you this season!

Welcome Laurie Boyer!

We’re excited to welcome another new teammate to Team Survivor. Laurie’s message to the team is below:

Greetings. My name is Laurie and this is my third TNT event in the last 20 years. This is the first event that I have had a personal connection to the Leukemia Lymphoma cause. My father was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2018 and passed in 2020. My daughter in law was diagnosed with AML in 2019. After her treatments and bone marrow transplant she was in remission for almost two years. In December she relapsed and is now in treatment preparing for a second transplant.
Witnessing her strength and courage as she battles this disease motivated me to support her and the LLS cause by enrolling in this event. After several years of inactivity I’m back on the bike – struggling but determined. I am looking forward to some extra support and encouragement not only in the physical training but also navigating the emotional roller coaster with my son and his family. As I live in Durango and traveling back and forth to Denver during her treatment, I am doing my best to stay in track with training rides. I hope to meet some of you in person and participate in some group rides. I welcome personal emails (Laurie.lang.Boyer@gmail.Com or texts (303-523-3053).  Go Team Survivor!
I am in the graduation attire, my daughter Briana is to my left, my partner to my right. Ciarra is next to my partner, Chris, and my son Marlin is on the far right holding their son, Summit.

Executive Leadership Committee

Do you have an hour a month and a strong desire to cure cancer? Want to join a fun committee? We are looking for a volunteer to join the Executive Leadership Committee for LLS in the region. The goal of the committee member is to make an impact  by connecting LLS with corporate contacts (starting with your own) that are willing to fundraise, either through the Resilience Challenge, putting together a corporate team for an event, or sponsorship.
