Team Survivor Newsletter June 2020

Your favorite pizza place is closed, professional sports have been postponed and numerous events have been cancelled. While all those things are true, Cancer has not been cancelled, and those with a blood cancer diagnosis need our support more than ever. Team Survivor will not use the pandemic as an excuse to stop raising money for research, treatment and cures. With all of the terrible events happening in our country right now, this gives us an opportunity to do something positive and to make a difference. Thanks for signing up with Team Survivor to Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

100 Friends in 100 Hours Fundraiser!

We would have been in Lake Tahoe this weekend but since we can’t be there, Team Survivor is having a 100 hour fundraiser over the Tahoe weekend. We will start on Friday, June 5th at noon and finish on Monday, June 8th at 4:00 pm. We will use Facebook to get 100 friends to donate in 100 hours for Team Survivor. On Friday at noon, create a Facebook fundraiser using the instructions below. IMPORTANT – you must log in to your LLS account to set up your fundraiser to ensure your donations go to your TNT website.

Here’s the message for your Facebook Fundraiser:

I am a member of Team Survivor, a bike team whose goal each year is to raise $100,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. These funds are critical for research, treatments and cures for those fighting blood cancers. Our team is having a fundraiser this weekend and we are looking for 100 friends to join with us in the fight against cancer! In the next 100 hours, we are looking for 100 donations. We don’t care how small your donation is, we just want 100 people to get involved! I’m going to be sharing some pictures and stories of our team and I hope that will encourage you to get involved. We are kicking off the challenge at noon on Friday, June 5th and going through Monday, June 8th at 4:00 pm. Our team was scheduled to be in Lake Tahoe for our annual Team in Training biking event this weekend, but since it had to be postponed, we are staying at home and raising donations for this great cause instead! Will you support us with a donation today?

WHY I RIDE

with Speed Racer Khem Suthiwan

I ride because I can. I ride for those who can’t. I ride because it’s fun. I ride because I like to go fast. I ride because I get to see the world and its beauty in a very special way. I could go on and on with all the reasons why I ride, but there was a time in my life that I was unable to ride or participate in any physical activities due to medical reasons. During that time, I vowed that once I was able to return to physical activities, I would never let anything or anyone, even myself, keep me from moving. To be able to ride is a gift that I’ll never take for granted, and if I can use that gift to help others (i.e. Team in Training), even better!!!

FUNDRAISING

DON’T. GIVE. UP. – Yes, COVID-19 has been the cause of cancelled TNT group training and a postponed Lake Tahoe event. Yes, some of our teammates have conflicts with the new date and others have transferred to other events. The good news is, in spite of all the obstacles, including losing some donations as people have left, we are still over half of the way to our fundraising goal with plenty of time remaining – as of June 1st, we have raised $52,139! So, let’s not focus on all the bad, let’s stand up and remember all the GOOD we can do for blood cancer patients. Don’t write the year off – let’s get busy and make it happen! Here’s the current leader board:

  • Rance MacDougald – $8700
  • Mary Salsich – $7263
  • John Reumann – $6142
  • Randy Hunt – $5025
  • Meli Reumann – $3575
