Team Survivor Newsletter April 2020

Team in Training has cancelled all in-person group training through the end of May and postponed America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride. APRIL FOOLS! Sadly, as you know, this is all true. Hard to believe that in the last month our new reality is being sheltered at home stockpiling hand sanitizer, powdered milk, and toilet paper. Wishing you safety and health and hoping to see you all soon. In the meantime, fundraising is an activity you can do in quarantine, so let’s keep focus on our most important goal – raising $100,000 and funding a life saving research portfolio! Thanks for signing up with Team Survivor to Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

TAHOE RESCHEDULED

Relating to the COVID-19 outbreak, Team in Training made the decision to postpone the ride scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2020 to Sunday, September 13, 2020 to combine with their other ride, Tour de Tahoe. Everyone received an email on March 20th with all the details. We hope everyone is able to shift to the new date and join us! If you are joining us for the September ride, your signed commitment agreement and all selections for hotel, Rally, apparel, etc. will remain the same in the TNT reservations system. Any purchases of guest dinner tickets and/or a hotel buyout will remain the same in our reservation system at this time. For those Team Survivor members who signed up for Train 2 Cure because of schedule conflicts with the June date, please consider joining the team September 13th in Lake Tahoe!

FUNDRAISING ALERT: TEAM SURVIVOR is 50% of $100,000 GOAL for 2020!

Congratulations, Team Survivor has just hit 50% of our fundraising goal with 6 months to go! We may not be able to ride as a team right now, but we can still fundraise as a team. Let’s ensure this is a successful season by reaching our goal of raising $100,000 and funding a blood cancer research portfolio. Whether it’s AMBBR or Tour de Tahoe, cycling around the lake doesn’t cure cancer, but raising donations funds life changing treatments, support, and cures! As of April 1st we have raised $49,590 in donations. While you are social distancing, send out fundraising letters and social media posts. Check out the email Laura sent you on March 25th with a fundraising letter called “My Commitment is NOT cancelled.” Don’t worry about your minimum, raise the maximum! Congrats to these teammates who are leading the way!

  • Mary Salsich – $7263
  • John Reumann – $5492
  • Randy Hunt -$5025
  • Rance McDougald – $4000
  • Meli Reumann – $3575
  • Khem Suthiwan – $2225

One benefit of our rescheduled ride is that we now have more time to fundraise and to recruit. There were several people who were close to joining earlier this year so let’s invite friends, family and coworkers to join us for the season! Let me know how I can help with your recruiting efforts!

New Member Alert

WELCOME AL VAN TINE!

Please join me in welcoming Al Van Tine to Team Survivor! Al and his wife are new to Grand Junction, moving here from Salem, Oregon a few weeks ago. He has done 11 TNT events with the Oregon chapter since joining in 2006, with 8 trips around Lake Tahoe. Al’s motivation for participating and continuing with TNT is his wife who passed in 2005 after a two year battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Welcome Al! We all look forward to meeting you and will bring a big group to Grand Junction for Tour of the Moon later this year!

Rolling Rollicking Ride this Saturday

Since we have been asked by state officials not to drive to exercise activities, meet us where you can on the Mary Carter bike path this Saturday. Meli and I will do an out and back from our house to REI on Platte, starting at 10:00. Here are a few locations where you can meet us along the way riding from your house (times are approximate). I’ll set up a group on Life360 so we can track each other. Come roll with us! Here’s the Facebook invite to RSVP – https://www.facebook.com/events/218724932576251/
Aspen Grove – 7 miles – 10:30
Regal River Point – 12 miles – 11:00
REI – 20 miles – 11:30

The Last TNT Ride

Who knew that when we met at Primal Wear on March 7th, it would be our last group ride for awhile? Primal’s Marketing team was on hand to interview several team members and to take video and pictures for social media to highlight their partnership with Team Survivor. We had a beautiful, sunshiny, short sleeve day on the bikes -it seems like a year ago!

CYCLING SOCIAL DISTANCING

With the need to practice Social Distancing, Team Survivor was creative and remained active riding in March!

Stay safe and well!
