Team Survivor Newsletter April 2019

Due to unexpected damage done by winter storms in Lake Tahoe, America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride has been cancelled this year while repairs are made to the roads around the lake. Luckily, we have a great alternative and will be participating in the Prairie Peddler in Pueblo the same weekend. April Fools! Welcome to April with only 62 days until the Team Survivor Argyle-All Stars ride around the incomparable Lake Tahoe! Thanks for all you are doing to Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

THINKING ABOUT MARY – a few weeks ago our friend and teammate Mary Salsich was hit by a car while riding. Thankfully she survived the impact but sustained serious injuries and will be in rehab for some time. Mary is so kind and generous and has been a supporter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and a fundraiser for Team in Training for many years. We all miss seeing her smiling face and her trademark yellow windbreaker flying by! We wish her the very best as she continues her recovery – GO MARY!

SAVE THE DATE – the annual Team Survivor Send Off party will be held on Thursday, May 16th, at 6:00 pm. I’ll be sending a separate evite but please mark your calendars and plan to attend. I will pass out the jerseys, t-shirts, and the Team Survivor awards for the season.

FUNDRAISING – as we head down the home stretch, it’s getting very exciting as we near our goal of $100,000 and funding a research portfolio in the name of Team Survivor. Can you believe what can happen when a group of people make a commitment and work hard to achieve a goal? Let’s make this final push count and finish strong! While our goal is $100,000 it would be great to break $150,000 again this year! To date we have raised $88,291 – amazing job! Thanks to each and every one of you who are working so hard to raise money for treatments and cures for blood cancer! Here are our top 10 fundraisers through the end of March:

  • $7106 – Rance McDougald
  • $5693 – John Reumann
  • $4066 – James DeGregori
  • $3956 – Mair Churchill
  • $3856 – Meli Reumann
  • $3841 – Stephanie Grover
  • $2705 – Randy Hunt
  • $2556 – Lisa Schwab
  • $2506 – Khem Suthiwan
  • $2156 – Chin Shaulis

MARCH TRAINING – although it has been a rough winter for cycling, training is in full swing and we are gearing up for more miles and more climbing in April. Thanks again to Chris Soden at IOG for his bike fit demo and congrats to teammate Lisa Schwab for winning the Team Survivor Bike Fit Sweepstakes and getting a world class fit! Only 2 months to get ready for our 100 ride – come join us!

TEAM SURVIVOR NUGGETS FUNDRAISER – On March 14th, Team Survivor filled a block of 28 seats to watch the Denver Nuggets beat the Dallas Mavericks on a last second shot by Nikola Jokic! Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets and joined us for a great time! Between ticket sales and associated donations, we raised over $1,000 and had a fabulous time!

Looks like spring may finally be here! See you this Saturday. . . and every Saturday until we ride in Lake Tahoe. Thanks to you all!
